German Pretzels

They are really good as a light breakfast or a snack, Germans traditionally put butter on them which was really good. I didn't use the lye but they tasted fine anyways. It was a lot of fun to shape the pretzels! The pictures are of the starter, the ball of dough, the unbaked pretzels and one of the final pretzels.

  1. yum! i love pretzels. they look really good. why didn't you use the lye? why would it be in the recipe anyways? i'm not quite sure what it is but if it's what i think it is then...

  2. The lye is toxic and caustic and it's supposed to make it 'authentic' and taste better
